When I was younger my
main sporting focus was football. I played local and
district football until the age of 13. I then signed
for Bolton Wanderers for three years. I was always playing
golf alongside football but it wasn't until I was 14
that I started to show real promise. I joined Deane
Golf Club and managed to get my handicap down to 3 by
the age of 16. I then made the decision to take up golf
as my main sport. I competed successfully in various
competitions locally and nationally whilst a junior
at Deane Golf Club. My game continued to improve and
when I was 18, upon completion of my 'A' Levels, I decided
to embark on a three-year degree at Birmingham University
entitled, (BA) 'Applied Golf Management Studies'. At
Birmingham I achieved a 2:1, this massively enhanced
my knowledge for the game in various aspects such as;
psychology and sports science. In addition I achieved
and maintained a three-year scholarship, which contributed,
to my continuing improvement in golf. Throughout my
three years at University I competed in British Universities
Sport Association (BUSA) Golf, where Birmingham were
the 2004 League Champions. I then went on to Captain
the first team in 2005. My degree was run in unison
with the PGA and at the end of my course I had the opportunity
to turn professional and become a fully-fledged member
of the PGA. I took this opportunity and decided to dedicate
my time to a professional playing career in golf. 2006
will be my first full season as a professional. Throughout
my sporting career I have been fortunate enough to receive
massive support from my family. My dad introduced me
to the game and alongside my mum has maintained their
support and belief in my game. My girlfriend Emma also expresses a great deal of confidence and support for my golf. Emma has recently graduated with a fantastic degree in French & German where she achieved a 2:1. Emma is currently spending a year abroad to help strengthen her French. I am looking forward to an exciting future together as well as a successful career in the world of professional golf. |
